Alan Hook is a Lecturer in Interactive Media and a Researcher in New Media and Play at the University of Ulster. Alan teaches Games Studies and New Media Studies within the School of Media Film and Journalism. His teaching and research focusing on play as a form of interaction and how participation in games and transmedia texts effects and shapes behaviour both in and outside of the game. Alan’s research within Ulster focuses on games and behaviour and is currently publishing work on games and sustainable energy, and This Is Not A Game as a core aesthetic in Alternate Reality Games. He has recently released Archie’s Cave for iOS which is a game prototype for exploring, geo-locative and situated historic narrative and games.
Alan is enrolled as a PhD candidate at Lancaster University in Imagination Lancaster, an open and exploratory design-led research centre.
